How to pack gluten free bento box lunches that kids will actually eat

A note on gluten before we get started: If you are packing lunches for someone gluten intolerant, you probably know this, but be sure to read your labels! 

The yogurt and kefir products I recommend are gluten-free but any other packaged item has the opportunity for gluten contamination. 

Read your labels carefully and look for the certified gluten-free seal to keep you and your gluten intolerant body safe!

Gluten-Free Lunch Idea #1: Deconstructed Chicken Tacos

This lunch is especially great when you have leftover grilled chicken from dinner the night before.

I like to eat this by dipping the chicken chunks in the creamy taco sauce and then dipping in cheese or lettuce. You could also serve this with guacamole if you like having multiple dipping options.

Gluten-free tortilla chips would also make a great addition to this lunch for big kids or adults who need a little more food in their lunch.

To make this gluten-free lunch idea, pack:
  • Chunks of leftover grilled chicken
  • Baby tomatoes
  • Shredded lettuce 
  • Shredded cheese
  • Creamy taco sauce - make it by mixing 1/2 cup of plain Greek style yogurt or sour cream with about one teaspoon of taco seasoning or to taste.

To make this gluten-free lunch idea, pack:
  • Olives
  • Salami slices
  • Cheese chunks
  • Cucumber slices
  • Baby tomatoes
  • Fruit salad made by tossing your favorite berries in strawberry kefir

For this lunch, I made a yogurt-based dipping sauce by mixing Greek plain yogurt with honey.

If your school isn't nut-free, you could also make the dipping sauce by mixing in a little bit of peanut butter, too. Yum!

  • Apple slices
  • Trail mix
  • Greek yogurt dipping sauce
    (To make it, mix 3/4 cup Greek yogurt with 1 Tbsp honey and 2 Tbsp peanut butter. If you can't have nuts in your lunch, this is still delicious if you leave out the peanut butter)

Gluten-Free Lunch Idea #7: Chicken Salad Not-A-Sandwich
