Have you ever felt tired, sluggish or just in need of a pick-me-up? What do you normally do when you feel like that? Instead of coffee or an energy drink, next time try one of these natural essential oil boosts that really work!
When I’m feeling drained, tired or simply overworked I use essential oils to rejuvenate and perk me back up. I have come to appreciate how powerful they are and now use them as a regular part of my life. They provide therapeutic benefits in a natural way without crazy stimulants.
I’m sure there are days where you, too, need a little extra pick me up. I can help! Here are my favorite ways to energize the body and mind with essential oils.
All the links below go to Rocky Mountain Oils - a company whose oils I love and use due to their quality, reasonable prices and free shipping (no MLM membership required!). If you make a purchase after clicking, I may get a small kick back from the company as a thank you for sending traffic their way without costing you extra. I only provide these types of links for products I really use and enjoy.
Diffusing
One of the simplest and safest ways of using essential oils is through aromatherapy. Anyone interested in a lifestyle with essential oils should invest in a good diffuser. A diffuser dispenses the oil in the air, releasing the aroma. When you use a diffuser in a room, everyone can reap the benefits. Two drops of peppermint with two drops of orange essential oil is my favorite blend for diffusing when I need to focus. When I am feeling sluggish and drained, I like diffusing grapefruit oil. Both of these diffuser scents improves concentration and mental focus while giving you an enjoyable energy boost. Because I like to mix things up, I also enjoy Citrus Blend and Citrus Passion. These blends are pre-mixed and smell super yummy.
Inhalation
If you are on the go and away from your diffuser, smelling the scent from a bottle of essential oil can still have a positive effect. Simply open the bottle and hold it a few inches below your nose and wave it back and forth. Try this with grapefruit or bergamot essential oil--these both uplift mood while providing a boost for your immune system. I love the citrusy sweet scent of Bergamot essential oil. The Citrus Blend and Citrus Passion blends I mentioned above are also great to carry in your bag for a quick inhalation pick-me-up.
Scent Locket
Another way I like to carry the therapudic power of essential oils with me on the go is in a diffuser locket necklace. This necklace is not only beautiful but allows you to carry your "power scents" with you whereever you go. It's the power of inhaltion, just in a pretty, more convenient form!
Candles
Burn an unscented candle in a glass jar and add a drop or two of essential oil. Great combinations to uplift mood and awaken the senses are lemon with peppermint or rose with sandalwood. All are a wonderful addition to your essential oil collection. If you are looking for an easy pre-made blend, I am also a big fan of the Love blend from Rocky Mountail Oils which combines the scents of citrus, ylang ylang and rose--it's so yummy!
Application
Applying diluted oil to the skin is another way to get a boost. When applying essential oils remember less is more--dilute, dilute, dilute (regardless of what many DoTerra and Young Living reps will tell you, it almost NEVER appropriate to apply essential oils directly on your skin without dilution). Essential oils can be powerful on our sensitive skin so it’s important to test a small area first. If any irritation occurs, immediately dilute with additional carrier oil. It's also important to remember that a lot of citrus oils can make you skin sensitive to light so applying citrus oils in places covered by your clothing is ideal such as over you heart (assuming your shirt keeps that area covered!) or the bottom of your feet. Try mixing two drops each of peppermint and orange essential oil in a 10mL roller bottle and top off with fractionated coconut oil.
If you’re considering trying essential oils, do it! They can truly transform your outlook on life and rejuvenate your spirit. Now that I have experience with them I wouldn’t want to go without them.
I am working on building the library of essential oil information and tutorials on this site. If you have questions about essential oils or how to use them, please leave them in the comments!
