This week, with the help of my friends Carolina from 30 Minute Crafts and Angie of The Country Chic Cottage I'm going to bring you a new recycled craft each day PLUS feature 8 other recycled crafts. Its a veritable recycled crafting extravaganza!
Today I have easy to make plant markers using clothespins. They even coordinate well with the planter we made yesterday to make a super cute gift.
Supplies
- Clothespins
- Washi tape
- Scissors
- Label maker (I use a DYMO LetraTag Plus
and love it)
- Clear label tape
- Skinny dowels
- Optional: Martha Stewart Decoupage
for weatherproofing
Directions

Step 1:
Make a strip of washi tape long enough to cover one side of the clothespin.
Step 2:
Trim the ends of the tape to a point. Cut slits in the side of the tape where the metal hinge meets the wood.
Step 3:
Fold all the edges over.
Step 4:
Use your label maker to print the name of your plant onto clear label tape.
Step 5:
Trim the label to better fit on the clothespin and apply to clothespin.
Step 6:
Clip clothespin to a dowel. Insert dowel into dirt.
Step 7: Optional weatherproofing
If you're going to use your plant markers outside instead of in house plants, use a paintbrush to give it 2-3 coats of Martha Stewart Decoupage over the top (allow to dry at least one hour between coats). This will seal it and make it rainproof.

ReplyDeleteI have to say that the creative way you create these plant markers is absolutely stunning, they are simple but yet very neatly designed. They do not at all stick out like a bad wound or anything, they simply melt in and present themselves very well.
The use of the clear Dymo tape was a nice touch and really saves a lot of time for someone like myself who does not have the best handwriting!
I do hope the Dymo will serve you well for a long time and that many will have use of this guide.
