On mornings I didn't plan ahead? Let's just say it can get ugly when your only options are Starbucks or fast food.

With a little bit of forward planning, you can have have a nutritious breakfast smoothie that takes just a couple minutes to whip up and is easy to take on the go. Use my mason jar / blender hack and you'll have next to no clean up. Swap your daily coffee drive through habit for this instead and you'll have plenty of fuel to help you make it through your morning - no caffeine needed! Serve this recipe to your kids and they'll think you've gone nuts (dessert for breakfast?!) but you'll be happy because you know that's it's good for them! This recipe contains more than 10 grams of protein, 25% of your daily calcium intake and 15% of your daily iron recommendation

    Directions

    1. To prepare frozen bananas: At least 12 hours in advance, peel bananas and break them into 3 chunks each. Add chunks to a gallon size zip top plastic bag and freeze. When ready to use, remove from freezer and take out just the number of chunks needed before returning them to the freezer.
    2. Add all ingredients in order listed to blender or mason jar.
    3. Blend on high until well combined.
If you're running out the door, take your mason jar with you as a to go cup! If you're staying home, make it feel extra special by drizzling chocolate syrup inside a glass before pouring shake in (as pictured).

Soy milk is a great dairy alternative - especially if anyone in your house is sensitive to milk or lactose. Be sure to buy Non-GMO Project certified soy milk (like Silk) to guarantee that what you're putting in your body is free of GMO contaminants.
